Abstract

Background: It has been observed that infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is the leading cause of both mortality & morbidity in cases of upper gastrointestinal (GI) illnesses. There is a dearth of studies examining the link between H. pylori & iron deficiency anemia (IDA). Aim and objectives: to assess dynamics of iron profile in cases suffering from H.pylori infection before & after (6 weeks) eradication treatment. Subjects and methods: This Prospective cohort Pre-Post test research was carried out in the the internal medicine department in gastroenterology & hematology units (inpatients and outpatients), 106 patients diagnosed with Helicobacter pylori infection were enrolled in this research. Results: there was great statistically significant variance among Hb, MCV, MCH & PLTs before and after treatment, there was statistically significant variance among WBCs before & after therapy. There was high statistically significant variance among iron profile before & after therapy. Conclusion: we concluded that The incidence of anemia, especially iron deficiency anemia, varied greatly before and after the course of therapy and elimination of H. pylori infection
