Background: Around 90% of spontaneous hernias are thought to be inguinal hernias, making inguinal hernia repair one of the most frequent elective surgical operations performed by general surgeons worldwide. Aim: To assess the early results and safety of the laparoscopic TAPP procedure for adult patients' inguinal hernia repair utilizing a Prolene mesh. Patients and Methods: This prospective randomized investigation was conducted on thirty patients who were a candidate for elective laparoscopic trans-abdominal pre-peritoneal inguinal hernia repair in Al Zahraa University Hospital from April 2021 to the end of May 2023. Results: Operative time was longer in the laparoscopic group, 69.33 ± 17.46 minutes in unilateral cases with a mean value of 91.0 while ranging from 80.3 ± 10.6 minutes in bilateral cases. Intra-operative bleeding managed by cauterization occurs in 2 patients (6.7%). Time to return to normal activities and work range 8-14 days in 26 cases (86.66 %) and range 15 – 21 days in 4 cases. Early postoperative pain, according to the visual analogue score, was (60% mild - 40% moderate) Chronic postoperative pain occurred in 2 cases, one month and three months postoperative. Conclusion: Prolene mesh inguinal hernia repair with laparoscopic TAPP surgery has shown several benefits, including excellent aesthetics, a short hospitalization, less postoperative discomfort, and fewer problems. Common inguinal hernias may be treated with TAPP. Egypt should be encouraged to implement TAPP broadly.
