Prevalence of Different Types of Anemia in Third Trimester

Abstract

Background: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), anemia is a significant worldwide health issue that affects around two billion people all over the world. Aim: To Evaluate the frequency and status of anemia in pregnant females in their third trimester, Identify the risk factors for anemia and the prevalence of different types of anemia and causes. Patients and methods: This cross-section observational trial was carried out on individuals at Farshut Central Hospital at the antenatal care clinic in the period between December 2022 and December 2023. Results: Regarding the anemia there were 329 cases of iron deficiency anemia out of 366 cases, there were 160 cases were microcytic hypochromic, 108cases were normocytic normochromic, 60 cases were microcytic normochromic and 38 cases were normocytic hypochromic, 329 cases had Iron deficiency (89.9%), 16 cases had both Iron and vitamin B deficiency, 10 cases had blood loss,6 cases had inflammation, and 5 cases had thalassemia. Other research also demonstrates that there was a highly significant variation found between ferritin and anemia and the causes of anemia. Conclusion: The research reveals a high incidence of anemia in the third trimester because of malnutrition, iron depletion, and blood loss, with iron deficiency being the most prevalent, with a percentage of 90%.
